Design project:Seen-Unseen (Idea to product)
September, 2008 – November, 2008
Guide: Mary-Ann Hansen, Denmark Design Skole, Copenhagen

I have always been very much fascinated by the clouds since I was a little girl. Thus, it was so exciting for me to start with this project. I have always wanted to touch them, to feel them. Several question would occur when I would think about being in midst of clouds, Are they light? Are they soft ?

During my maiden international flight from Mumbai to Copenhagen, I looked outside the window, only to get so amazed by the fluffiness and sheer beauty of clouds. I wondered how it would feel like, if I could embrace them in my arms, if I could sleep on that very soft and fluffy bed. This motivated me to take CLOUDS as my subject for my design project at Denmark Design Skole, Copenhagen. I wanted to express my feelings, experiences, titillations about clouds in form of textiles. I created some textile samples which would eventually give away the very essence of clouds. Click here to see my work.

Design project: Need for a Knead (A Massage Rug)
December, 2008 – January, 2009
Guide: Mary-Ann Hansen, Denmark Design Skole, Copenhagen

“Need for a knead” is basically a project based on the concept of reuse and sustainability. The principal motivation was to effect a contribution to the world of textiles with respect to reuse and sustainability. “Duality” of purpose was the key theme while designing this product. Thus, it has dual purpose and function. The massage rug can be put on the chair, also it can be put on the floor. The function of this rug is to provide acupressure to vital points of the body, thus effecting relaxation. This was showcased at Stockholm Furniture Fair, 2009.

Course: Sewing Techniques
September, 2007
National Institute of Design

In this course, I made a side table lamp which was worked in layers. In this project the waste fabric has been used to shade the direct light. In between the two layers of fabric, bits of fabric have been sandwiched which results in a nice interplay of diffused light. The inspiration for this work was George Seurat’s paintings done in post-impressionist period also known as Pointillism. Click here to see some pictures of the side table lamp.
